Healthrhythms Reflections in Assisted Living

Mr. Walter gave me a card he carried with him to share. So, we ended our session with a one-word share around the circle.  A woman in a wheelchair said she didn't think she had a positive word to share. She had suffered a broken arm and leg and had waited so long for recovery. It was still bothering her.

What got you through it at the time?” I asked. She replied, “You do or you don't and with a lot of patience.” "Does that give you a positive word for us, I asked...” “Yes, patience is my word,” she replied with a big smile for the group.

We followed her lead and drummed the word patience together. A woman on my left had suffered a stroke and rarely spoke.  Another drummer offered, "Might serenity or peace be a good word for you?" Suddenly, forming her lips - wait for it – slowly, she said "No, not that." So, I asked, “What is your word for us?" "JOY," she said clearly.

And we drummed with joy.
